The think tank
Occasionally, I write short reflections on my life as an MD or PhD student. Other times I write short texts about other things, such as politics, health, popular scientific concepts etc. Check out my work!

My Projects
A PhD is typically cumulative, meaning that the candidate builds a “portfolio” of scientific work that is then summarised in a main body called the thesis. I’ve been involved in several projects as a PhD student, and below are the ones that I am currently most involved in.
FINE
My main PhD project, “FINE”, is designed to investigate mechanisms of importance for neuroimmune communication in fibromyalgia. This means that we look at how the nervous and immune systems interact.
Biomarkers for osteoarthritis and back pain
My first projects during my PhD time consisted of quantifying immunoactive proteins in the systemic circulation (serum) and in cerebrospinal fluid. We then attempted to correlate the levels of proteins in the different biofluids to one another and to the subjective experience of pain, fatigue and sleep disturbance.
Degenerative disc disease – pain, disability and genetics
A third project I’m heading is one where we attempt to better understand surgical outcomes (pain, disability and quality of life) based on genetic interactions. It’s a mechanistically designed study that aims to provide a better understanding of both genetic interactions and subsequent physiological phenomena that may be related to the respective outcomes.
